WHAT IS MOLD REMEDIATION?

Something that always comes as a surprise to home and business owners alike is the fact that mold is essentially present everywhere. No that’s not a typo. But it shouldn’t scare your or be the source of much cause for concern. This is because most mold is harmless to humans. That being said, many types of mold can have an adverse affect on indoor air quality in several different ways. Mold remediation is the process of removing mold, halting it’s growth, and returning a premises back to normal levels of mold.

Do I Have a Mold Problem?

The problem with most dangerous mold growth is that it is rarely visible. Typically a home owner won’t notice mold growth in a home until long after an infestation has occured. This is why it is so important to understand the risk factors and warning signs of mold growth. For instance, recent water damage in a property will put it at a very high risk for mold growth. Whereas damp, musty smells, unexplained and/or increased allergy-like symptoms are a key indicator that mold is present in your home or business.

Whenever mold come into contact with a damp surface, spores are released and spreading occurs. Steam from showers or appliances, leaking pipes or plumbing, and flooding, lead the pack in mold-growth causes.

If you have experienced any of the following, scheduling a mold inspection is a good idea. They are relatively inexpensive and can give you piece of mind about the safety of you and your loved ones.

What Are The Health & Safety Risks?

Mold overgrowth can lead to several health issues for anyonme experiencing consistent exposure. Coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing, rashes & other skin infections are all possible side effects of mold exposure. People with asthma or allergies are especially at risk with some extreme cases leading to infections in the lungs requiring hospitilization to clear.

Never Try & Get Rid of Mold By Yourself

Time and time again we visit the residence of a homeowner who has spent months trying to clean and re-clean surfaceas affected by visible mold growth, only to inform us that, “it just keeps coming back.” Mold is extremely easy spread, it needs very little to grow, and it is resistent to nearly all over-the-counter products advertised to “kill mold”.

What most homeowners do when trying to clean up mold growth is spread it further. Without the proper training, equipment, and protocols for mold remediation 99 times out of 100 trying to turn mold remediation into a Do-it-Yourself job will make the matter much, much worse.

Hiring a professional will give you piece of mind that the mold you are dealing with will be eradicated. This is because any good mold remediation company in the bay area will contact an independent 3rd party to perform a pre and post remediation inspection. This is designed to detect the presence of mold in a home or business.

When you hire a company like H&L Restoration for your mold remediation in San Jose, Santa Clara, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, Cupertino, Campbell or any city in the South Bay, you can rest assured that we will not only completely and thoroughly clean the infestation; but also find and fix the source of the problem.

How the Mold Remediation Process Works

The Assessment

This is the intial on-site visit to a home or business. We will walkthrough the property, locate signs of visible & hidden mold growth, and begin to identify the source of the infestation. If mold is discovered, samples will be taken and sent to a lab for identification.

The Stabilization

If mold is located, our first order of action is to stabilize the area by controlling moisture levels and prevent any additional spreading of mold spores.

Establish & Implement Drying Plan

Mold relies heavily on 2 things to grow. First up is water, without water mold cannot grow. The next is the right temperature. Before we begin the remediation of the mold, we look to dehumidify affected areas and remove any contributing factors that lead to the environment that allowed the mold to grow in the first place.  This means we must control the temperature and moisture levels immediately.

Nex Up is The Remediation

After containment measures are set up and in place we will begin to remove mold in a multitude of ways. Mold and mold infested surfaces that cannot be cleaned will be removed. HEPA filters will be used to create negative pressure in the working area to ensure that mold spores do not travel and spread the contamination to previously unaffected surfaces and areas.

Once complete a mold testing and inspection company will be called back in to perform post-remediation tests to ensure that the remediation was a success.
